Title

Entry 2d

Source

Samuel Johnson, "The Idler and the Adventurer" (Adventurer 126)

Transcription

“Piety practiced in solitude, like the flower tha blooms in the desert, may give its fragrance to the winds or heaven, and delight those unbodied [embodied] spirits, that survey the works of God and the actions of men, but it bestows no assistance upon Earth, by Beings [earthly beings], and however free from taints of impurity, yet wants the sacred splendor of Beneficence”
